In April last year, the English Premier League agreed to impose a voluntary ban on front-of-shirt sponsorship deals with gambling companies. The move had been a long time coming, with gambling critics calling for a ban for years.

We are just one season away from that ban coming into effect, due to go ahead for the 2026/2027 season. However, just one year from that point and EPL teams have more front-of-shirt gambling sponsors than they did for the previous season.
Half of all EPL teams for the 2024/2025 season will have a gambling sponsor on their shirt. That’s an increase from seven the previous season. It’s an issue that has led anti-gambling critics to urge the new Labour government to ban gambling sponsors in soccer altogether.
The teams that have signed gambling sponsors for the new season include Crystal Palace, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Nottingham Forest, and Aston Villa.
In the 2022/2023 season, front-of-shirt sponsorships generated £68m ($87.8m) for EPL clubs.
