The latest in a raft of recent gambling-related investigations into college athletes is a probe into two Fresno State basketball players who allegedly participated in daily fantasy sports (DFS) contests relating to their own performances on the court.
ESPN reported that junior forward Mykell Robinson and senior guard Jalen Weaver participated in these competitions for games in which they were playing.
Robinson’s activity included markets relating to his rebounds and points. He is no longer part of the college roster, last playing for the team on January 11.

Weaver admitted to participating in a $50 DFS contest in which his points total factored during a New Year’s Eve game against New Mexico. He backed himself to score over 11 points and finished the game with 13 points.
Talking to ESPN about the transgression, Weaver said that it was a bad decision and he’s paying for it now. The Colorado native clarified that he wasn’t trying to “sabotage the season,” as he didn’t bet on his team to lose or on any “under” bets. Weaver is no longer part of the Fresno State roster. The university’s athletics department caught the pair after seeing a text thread that showed Weaver and Robinson talking about betting.
Another Fresno State player is under investigation for betting on professional sports, which college athletes are prohibited from doing. Zaon Collins is still on the roster, although he sat out Saturday’s game against Air Force.
