A Portland man thought it was his lucky day when he won on a lottery machine at a local bar. His fortunes swiftly turned though, when a homeless man followed him and stabbed him 15 times with a pocketknife to steal his winnings.

Police identified the suspect as Pablo Andres Figueroa, a 61 homeless man, according to court records. He met the victim at Montana’s Bar on Saturday night while he was playing the lottery machine. Figueroa then followed him home, forced his way into the house, punched him in the face, and demanded his money.

Figueroa wasn’t satisfied when the victim handed over only part of the cash. He ordered him to give him the entire prize, before stabbing him 15 times in the arms, chest, and face with a pocket knife.

Astonishingly, the victim survived the incident after playing dead to prevent further stabbing. Police arrested the suspect shortly after with around $600 in cash in his possession. He pleaded not guilt to attempted murder, assault burglary, robbery, and unlawful use of a weapon.

In his arraignment on Monday, Figueroa was held without bail. He will return to court on August 27.

Last week, a couple in Florida were shot and robbed after winning a $3,000 slot jackpot on their date night at a local casino.
