Online sports betting could be coming to Nebraska after a senator filed a bill on the first day of the special legislative session. LB13 would need a constitutional amendment to take effect, which means the public will vote on the matter in November if the proposal gets sufficient support.

Governor Jim Pillen, who called the special session to try to lower property taxes, supports online betting expansion. He is already on record saying that an online betting bill would be a priority when the next legislative session begins in January if efforts during the special session are unsuccessful.

Pillen no longer wants people crossing state lines to place online wagers, thus sending revenue to neighboring states.

Retail sportsbooks are already up and running in Nebraska, launching in June 2023, and are now available at four casinos.

Committee meetings to discuss new bills will begin on Monday. Senator Eliot Bostar filed the legislation and believes its implementation would help drop property taxes.
