An Iowa woman was arrested after allegedly spitting at a police officer and an EMT while staying at the Isle Casino Hotel Bettendorf.
On Sunday, Missy Smith of East Moline, Iowa, also allegedly kicked an EMT while shouting profanities and making threats at the hotel. Before the incident, Smith was supposed to check out of the hotel at 11am, but she refused to do so.
Police searching her hotel room found suspected marijuana, leading to a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Believing her health needed evaluation, hotel staff called the police. The Bettendorf Fire Department EMTs also responded. When getting her vital signs checked, Smith allegedly started yelling. According to a police report, she started “lashing out with her hands and kicking EMT and medical staff.”
When Smith was put on a stretcher, she spat in the police officer’s eye, resulting in her having a spit hood placed over her face. She also had a restraint known as The Wrap placed around her legs, preventing her from kicking medical staff. The police report mentions that Smith was still able to spit at staff despite the spit hood.
As a result, Smith faces a charge of assault on the people helping her.
After her arrest, Smith was booked at Iowa’s Scott County Jail and had her bail set at $5,300. It’s not known if she was taken to a hospital for any treatment.
